How we got to November

GTA 6 was originally aimed at a 2025 window. It was delayed once to 26 May 2026, then delayed again to its current 19 November 2026 date — the second delay arrived with a public apology from Rockstar, widely covered at the time by outlets including Variety, NewsNation, Tom's Guide and GameLuster. Pre-orders for the 19 November date are already open through Rockstar and the console storefronts. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick described early pre-order demand as "unprecedented and astonishing" on the company's most recent earnings call, reported by Variety — a strong signal of interest, though sales figures on a game two and a half months from launch are not the same thing as reviews or confirmed quality.

Could it slip again?

The honest answer: no third delay has been announced, and the signs currently point the other way. Take-Two has built its fiscal 2027 guidance of $8.0 to $8.2 billion in net bookings around this date, and CEO Strauss Zelnick has said Rockstar's marketing campaign for the game starts this summer — both the kind of commitment a company makes around a date it considers locked, not one still in motion. That's a reasonable read of the available reporting, not a guarantee — treat any date as unconfirmed until launch day itself actually arrives.

Rockstar's own delay history, for context

GTA 6 slipping twice before settling on a date isn't unusual for this studio. GTA 5 moved once, from a spring 2013 window to that September. Red Dead Redemption 2 moved twice, from 2017 to spring 2018 and then to October 2018 — and it launched on that final date without slipping again. Take-Two leadership has pointed to that RDR2 pattern specifically when asked about GTA 6: once a date is locked, Rockstar has historically hit it, even after earlier delays. Past performance isn't a promise, but it's the closest thing to precedent this question has.

What's confirmed about the game itself

The setting is Vice City, in the fictional US state of Leonida, with Jason and Lucia as the two protagonists. Rockstar previews have named six regions inside Leonida: Vice City, Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga National Park. Confirmed side activities span basketball, boxing, fishing, hunting, jet skiing, mini golf, scuba diving, dirt biking, base jumping, car and dirt racing, rentable e-scooters and armed robberies, among others — tennis courts exist in the world, but tennis itself has been confirmed as not playable. Rockstar has never given a map size in square kilometres or miles for any of the six regions, individually or combined — anything you see stated as an exact figure is an estimate, not a confirmed one.
