Vice Roulette sets no cookies of its own. It keeps a few settings in your browser's local storage, which stay on your device and are never sent anywhere. Any cookie on this site is Google's, from the advertising script that loads on other pages while Google reviews the site. No advertisement is shown yet, and Google's own consent message for Europe and the UK is switched on the day ads are.

Cookies

A cookie is a small file a site asks your browser to store and then send back with every request to that site, which is what makes cookies useful for recognising people across visits and, when third parties are involved, across different sites.

We set none. Not for analytics, not for preferences, not even a "strictly necessary" one. Nothing this site does for itself needs a cookie.

Google may set some. Google's AdSense script runs on every page except the individual dare pages, the page-not-found page, this page and the privacy page, because Google is reviewing the site for advertising, and no advertisement is shown yet. The site sets Google's consent signals to denied before that script loads, and nothing on the site changes them. If the application is approved, Google uses cookies to choose which ad to show, to stop you seeing the same one over and over, and to measure whether an ad worked. Those cookies are Google's, on Google's domains, under Google's control — we cannot read them, and we never see what is in them. What they are and how long each lasts is set out in Google's own list of the cookies it uses for advertising.

Cloudflare Web Analytics

Cloudflare Web Analytics — sets no cookie and writes nothing to your device; the privacy page lists what it records. It is how our host counts visits, in totals it hands us that we cannot connect to a person.

Local storage

Local storage is a different thing with a similar reputation. It also lives in your browser, but it is never attached to network requests: it can only be read by this site's own code, running in your own browser, on the device you are using. It cannot follow you to another site or another device.

Six kinds of key are stored, all prefixed vr.:

None of them expires on its own: all of them sit there until you clear them, and the site never refreshes or extends them behind your back. None of these is an identifier. There is no visitor ID, no session ID and no random number assigned to you, so even we cannot tell one browser from another.

How to remove them

Clearing site data for viceroulette.com in your browser deletes all of them immediately. It is under Settings → Privacy → Cookies and site data in most browsers, and in Safari under Settings → Advanced → Website Data. A private or incognito window throws them away on its own when you close it.

The site is built to work with storage blocked. If your browser refuses storage, or you are in a private window, every write is quietly skipped: you get pure random spins with default settings, and the tally resets each visit. Nothing breaks.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

We set no cookie and run no tracker of our own; our host's visit counter sets nothing on your device, so on our side there is nothing for either signal to switch off. What Google's advertising does with them is Google's to answer for, and the controls that actually bite are the consent message and My Ad Centre above.

Consent, and how to say no

Our AdSense application is under review, so no consent message exists yet: nothing is shown that needs your agreement. When Google's certified consent message goes live for the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, a Cookie settings link in the footer will reopen it; until ads go live there is nothing to reopen. Once it is live, saying no there gets you non-personalised ads instead: the site stays unchanged, everything still works, and nothing is withheld from you for refusing.

Anywhere in the world you can also turn personalised advertising off for your Google account at My Ad Centre, opt out of participating vendors at aboutads.info/choices, opt out in Europe at youronlinechoices.eu, block third-party cookies in your browser, or run an ad blocker. None of it breaks the site: the wheel, the challenges and the share card all run in your own browser and never needed the ads to work.
