The GTA 6 map: the six regions of Leonida
Last updated: 6 September 2026
GTA 6 is set in Vice City, inside the fictional US state of Leonida. Rockstar's own previews have named six regions inside it: Vice City, Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga National Park. Here's what's actually been shown in each — and a dare to try in every one on day one.
The six confirmed regions
Vice City
The returning setting, and the one the game takes its name from. Rockstar's own line for it: "the darkest side of the sunniest place in America." It's the flagship of Leonida, the modern update of the neon-and-palm-trees city the series first visited decades ago — a dense, coastal metropolis rather than one district among many.
Leonida Keys
A string of islands off Leonida's southern tip, in the spirit of the real Florida Keys, linked by causeway-style bridges according to early coverage of the region. Laid-back and coastal, a clear contrast to Vice City's density right next door.
Grassrivers
Rockstar's take on wetland terrain — swamps, marshland and slow water, reported as drawing heavily on Florida's real Everglades. Confirmed activities that lean rural and outdoor, like hunting and fishing, fit this region's character more than any other named so far.
Port Gellhorn
Described in early coverage as a faded working port town — run-down motels, quiet strip malls, a harbour that's seen better decades. A different texture entirely from Vice City's gloss, closer to the parts of Florida tourists don't photograph.
Ambrosia
Reported as industrial and working-class — a sugar-refinery economy, blue-collar work and biker culture rather than coastline or skyline. Sits inland, next to Leonida's large freshwater lake by most early descriptions, a rural counterweight to the coastal regions.
Mount Kalaga National Park
The one region that isn't coastal at all — forests, canyons and hiking trails at Leonida's northern edge, described by early coverage as the closest thing GTA 6 has to Red Dead Redemption terrain. A genuine change of pace from the rest of the state.
Spin a GTA 5 dare while you wait to actually visit any of these — the generator's wildlife dares are a reasonable warm-up for Grassrivers and Mount Kalaga both, and the GTA 6 challenge generator is where these dares will actually be playable once the game is out.
How big is the GTA 6 map?
The honest answer: Rockstar has never stated a size, in square kilometres, square miles, or any other unit. "Roughly twice GTA 5" is a figure that circulates constantly online and gets repeated as if it were confirmed — it isn't. It likely comes from a rough visual comparison of early map glimpses against San Andreas, which is a reasonable guess but not a Rockstar statement, and this page won't repeat it as one. If an exact size is ever announced, it'll come from rockstargames.com/VI, not a leak.
Is Leonida just Florida?
Not literally — Leonida is fictional, the same way San Andreas stands in for California and Liberty City stands in for New York. But the influence is unmistakable: Vice City's whole identity comes from Florida's neon-and-palm-trees image, and the state's tone leans hard into it. That's exactly why this site keeps a dedicated Florida Man category of dares — it's the same joke Leonida itself is telling.
What's not confirmed about the map (unconfirmed)
A handful of obvious questions don't have official answers yet: whether every region is open from the moment you start, how far interiors go beyond what's been shown, exactly how travel between regions works, whether planes are in the game at all, and whether a casino exists the way Los Santos had one. None of these have a Rockstar statement behind them either way — treat any confident claim you see about them as speculation.
Why regions come out before missions
Rockstar has a consistent pattern across its recent games: the world gets shown in pieces — a region name here, a screenshot there — long before any actual mission, character arc or story beat is revealed. Six named regions with no confirmed mission list fits that pattern exactly. It's a deliberate drip, not a sign that the rest of the game is still undecided, and it's why a map post can be written accurately this far ahead of launch while a plot post genuinely can't.
Six dares, one per region
| Region | Dare |
|---|---|
| Vice City | Nightclub, tip the performers |
| Leonida Keys | Take a jet ski between islands |
| Grassrivers | Airboat through the wetland |
| Port Gellhorn | Carjack something, drive the coast road |
| Ambrosia | Dirt bike the back roads |
| Mount Kalaga | Hunt, or find water and swim or scuba dive |
Run it as a route on launch day: six regions, six dares, one per stop. Or spin the generator now and warm up on GTA 5 first.
FAQ
What are the six regions in GTA 6?
Vice City, Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga National Park — all confirmed by Rockstar's own previews and materials, inside the fictional state of Leonida.
Is GTA 6 set in Florida?
Not literally — Leonida is a fictional state, the same way San Andreas stood in for California and Liberty City stands in for New York. But it's unmistakably Florida-inspired, right down to Vice City itself and the Florida Man category this site keeps just for it.
How big is the GTA 6 map?
Rockstar has never stated a size in square kilometres or miles. "Roughly twice GTA 5" is a community estimate that gets repeated as if it were official — it isn't, and this page won't state it as fact.
Is Vice City the whole map?
No — Vice City is the flagship setting and the one that gives the game its name, but Leonida is confirmed to include five more named regions beyond it, from swampland to a national park.
Is Mount Kalaga a real place?
No, it's fictional, part of the invented state of Leonida. It's Rockstar's stand-in for a mountainous, forested region at the northern edge of the map — a Red Dead-style landscape rather than anything coastal.
